Our latest factsheet, Is Your Money Used to Support Racism?, breaks down the basics of why the city of Washington D.C. must divest from companies complicit in genocide and Apartheid Israel. Our research reveals that the city of Washington D.C. has at least $168 million invested in companies that are enabling Israeli apartheid, and profiting from the genocide in Gaza. Here a few other facts:
- Israel is a country where roughly 7 million Jewish Israelis deny 15 million Palestinians social, political, economic, and civil rights.
- Palestinian citizens of Israel (1.9 million) are second class citizens, and while they have voting rights and hold citizenship, there are over 60 laws that discriminate against them, simply based on their ethnicity.
- In occupied East Jerusalem, about 350,000 Palestinians have “permanent residency status” not citizenship, and since 1967, over 14,000 Palestinians have had their residency revoked.
- In the occupied West Bank, there are roughly 3 million Palestinians living under military occupation, where Israeli settlers have forcefully driven thousands of Palestinians from their homes since October 2023.
- Palestinians are also uniquely subject to military courts, with conviction rates over 99%. In March 2026, Israel passed the “Mandatory Death Penalty” law for Palestinians convicted of terrorism, the first of its kind since Nazi Germany. Israel has illegally occupied the West Bank since 1967.

- In Gaza, nearly 2 million people live in an area roughly twice the size of Washington D.C., with roughly triple the population. However, the Israeli military has recently imposed a new “Yellow Line” in Gaza, controlling about 58% of the land prior to October 2023. Israel has killed at least 70,000 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023.
- In the diaspora, roughly 7.8 million Palestinians cannot return to their homeland, exiled by the Israeli government. The right to return is firmly entrenched in international law.
U.S. multinational corporations and banks have invested billions of dollars in Israel. Since 1946, the U.S. has given over $300 billion to Israel. Large corporations invest in Israel because racist laws help them earn huge profits. Many of these companies are also directly responsible for the direct production of weapons and systems of apartheid that has enabled Israel’s genocide in Gaza, recent bombardment of Lebanon, Iran, and more across the Middle East.
